This dated 1960s house was used by our clients as a second home, located in an enviable position on the Welsh coast. The brief was to open up the rear rooms to create large sociable areas for entertaining, relaxing and making the most of the incredible coastal views. The various spaces needed to be bright and welcoming in summer and cosy and cosseting in winter. In choosing materials and layout, consideration was paid to the coastal conditions, daily changes in light, and the holiday needs of a young family. As a beach house, it was important that the mood was relaxed and all materials hard-wearing. In choosing colour schemes we reflected the faded blues, greys and burnt ochre of the coast outside to create a unity of space from the outside in.
